Heraldic Logo Process

I began this project by creating a list of the most important memories and traits of my family. I began to brainstorm places and events that are important and symbolize us. The first thing that came to my mind was the beach. My family loves the coast, as well as lighthouses. I knew I needed to incorporate those in my project. I then decided to create hand made sketches of elements that remind me of the beach.

I then knew that I needed to incorporate all of our pets within the design as well. Four cats, Nana, Ketza, Twilight, and Spike; as well as our two dogs, Lony and Bailey.

After scanning my sketches into the computer, I traced them into Photoshop.

I then created a simple shield form by using the pen tool in Adobe Illustrator.

I then began to incorporate all of my scanned/ traced images into the shield.

My final shield incorporates waves form the beach as well as a lighthouse. The 6 animals incorporated in my shioeld depicts all of the pets I have had over the entirity of my life.

Creature In Photoshop- Zeebrat!

I started out this project focusing on a collection of a few of my favorite animals. I found a cute picture of a panda bear. I then added a kitten face, and a squirrel tail. I put a layer or zebra skin over the animal. The tools I used in Photo Shop were layer masking. Using the paint brush tool, to get rid of the excess image.

Final Logo- I Love NY

Final Logo

My Process
My first step in creating this logo was to use the pen tool to create both the letter forms as well as the heart. However this process turned out to be way too time consuming and the outlines were not percise. I then looked up online to see which typeface the logo was and it was a form of American Typewriter. However the font was too altered in the logo to re create.

I then decided to use simple shapes such as circles and rectangles to create the font as well as the heart. The edges were much more accurate this way. I used the actual logo in the back layer while creating my design. I used a bright color to be able to distinguish my design from the real
one.

To create the Copyright symbol at the bottom, I used the a simple circle. Then I used the type Apple Symbols which was almost the exact R used. However I had to create outlines to alter it slightly.

Information on the logo.
The I Love NY Logo was designed in 1977 by Milton Glaser. The initial type was American typewriter, however within the creation of the logo it was altered greatly. The logo was created for a marketing campaign for the state of New York. An interesting fact is that Glaser created the logo pro-bono and was expecting the campaign to be short term; however now the logo is a world wide known trade mark.
